Do you suffer from ALLERGIES?

Cause: In some individuals, the immune system will overreact to substances that
enter the body, causing release of histamine as a defensive mechanism.

What May Help: Watkins Rezist Plus

Why: Contains ImmunEnhancer™ and pre- and probiotics that block substances
that attempt to invade the body. Blocking these substances helps to reduce
allergic reactions.

Helpful Hint: At the first sign of allergies, take 2 caplets of Rezist Plus in the
morning and 2 in the evening until symptoms subside; then take 2 caplets daily.

What May Help:Watkins Bee Pollen Complex

Why: Many people take bee pollen in the early spring to help combat allergy
symptoms associated with pollen. A growing number of scientists believe that ingesting small amounts of pollen can desensitize an individual to its allergenic compounds. Note: If allergy- or bee sting-sensitive, consult your physician-allergist before using.

What May Help:Watkins Superfood Multiple (Super Multi)

Why: Contains quercetin, a flavonoid that inhibits the release of histamine, helping to combat allergy symptoms.

“I live in California’s central valley and allergies have always been a problem for me. I started
taking Watkins Rezist Plus regularly and I have made it through the allergy season with no symptoms whatsoever, and have not had to take any allergy medications. I haven’t been sick at all, even though several “bugs” have been going around. Thank you, Watkins, for such a wonderful product.”
—Greg Ellis, California

“For years I’ve had allergy symptoms, such as a runny nose, etc. I started taking Rezist Plus and have had little or no allergy symptoms for over a year.”
—Dean Gengler, Kansas

“My oldest son wanted to take Rezist Plus because he knew it would help fight colds and flu, but the spin-off is that he suffered from what I called “allergy to the morning.” Certain times of the year he would wake up sneezing and coughing and would have a runny nose for a couple of hours every morning. He found that when he was taking Rezist Plus he wasn’t having that reaction when he woke up. It was only when he ran out of Rezist Plus and stopped taking it and all of those symptoms came back, that he realized that it was the Rezist Plus that was helping him to avoid those allergic reactions every morning. It’s a wonderful product and I’ve told lots of people who have allergies to try Rezist Plus. It certainly has made a difference in my son’s life.”
—Lee Baxevanidis, British Columbia

“I have been plagued with allergies all year round for most of my adult life. I have had to use allergy pills every day for the past 10 years and had tried to get off of medication, but with no success...that is, until I started taking Watkins Rezist Plus. I began to reduce my dosage of medication while taking Rezist Plus, and now I am completely off of medication and feeling a lot better while continuing to take Rezist Plus. “I take Watkins Rezist Plus everyday. When I have a reaction to something in the air or environment, I take another dose of Rezist Plus and within 30 minutes the reaction has subsided. It’s wonderful to see others’ expressions when they see the difference. “Thank you, Watkins, for making my allergies more
manageable with Rezist Plus.”

Watkins has low-carb answers

By Brenda Koth, MS, RD

There have been many diets and weight loss plans that have come and gone through the years, including the Atkins diet. Atkins, as well as other low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets, were popular decades ago, and are making a comeback.

While these diets do promote weight loss, in order to keep the weight off, the diet must be followed for a lifetime, and that’s what worries health experts. Any extreme type of eating plan that is followed for just a short time will not likely have long-term health risks, but a lifetime plan of virtually cutting out an entire food group that is essential for health, without knowing the long-term risks, is a concern. While the long-term health risks of low-carbohydrate plans have not yet been determined, doctors caution against the increased risk of gout, kidney stones, kidney and liver disease, weakened bones, and mood swings. Depression is a concern because carbohydrates help boost the production of serotonin, which controls emotions, and a shortage of serotonin can lead to mood swings and depression.

As a registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist, I encourage a sensible eating plan that includes all food groups in moderation—lean meats, fish, seafood and poultry, whole grains, fruit, vegetables, dairy, and an occasional sweet. However, I realize that many people are looking for products that can be used with the Atkins plan or other low-carbohydrate eating plans. Fortunately, with Watkins diversified product line, there is something for everyone, no matter what eating plan they may be following at the time.

Here are some suggestions to offer those following the Atkins plan or other low-carbohydrate eating plans.

Watkins Gourmet Herbs, Spices and Spice Rubs contain no sugar, carbohydrates or calories. Those following a low-carbohydrate plan or any diet plan often have limited options and eating the same or similar foods every day gets boring, making it harder to stick to the diet plan. Watkins Herbs and Spices add variety and taste, contribute no calories, carbohydrates or fat, and can help dieters stick to their plan.

Watkins Pepper, Pepper Blends and Peppercorns contain no sugar, carbohydrates or calories and add zest and flavor.

Watkins Cinnamon contains no sugar, carbohydrates or calories and can help to control blood sugar levels, keeping appetite under control.

Watkins Gourmet Extracts contain no sugar, with the exception of Black Walnut, Maple, Vanilla and Vanilla Nut, which contain only very small amounts.

Watkins Grapeseed Oils and Liquid Spices contain no sugar or carbohydrates and help to control appetite by reducing hunger for several hours. The added natural flavors provide variety and help dieters stick to their eating plan.

Watkins Jalapeño Hot Pepper Sauce contains no sugar or carbohydrates.

Watkins Chicken, Onion and Beef Soups contain less than 3 grams of carbohydrates per serving.

Watkins Spicy Garlic Soy Sauce contains less than 1 gram of sugar/carbohydrates per serving.

Watkins Reduce Plus with CarboControl™ Blend (WMS 2) helps to curb appetite for carbohydrates, and when they are consumed, helps to burn them up for energy rather than turning them into fat.*

Watkins TheraTrim™ with Appestat™ and EGCG (WMS 1) helps to boost metabolism and fat-burning while controlling appetite.*

Watkins Mood Plus (Balance Plus) helps to increase serotonin levels, which are often reduced on low-carbohydrate diets.*

Watkins Superfood Multiple (Super Multi) provides vitamins and minerals often lacking in low carbohydrate diets.

Watkins Fruit-Veggie Complex (Watkins Harvest) provides vitamins and phytonutrients from fruits and vegetables, which are often lacking in low carbohydrate diets.

Watkins Osteogen provides much needed calcium. High protein diets increase the body’s need for calcium, as a high intake of animal protein results in increased calcium being lost from bones.

Don't Get Burned…

Did you know approximately 80% of skin aging is believed to be due to sun exposure rather than age? Look at someone who has spent a lifetime in the sun without protection and you'll notice their skin may be wrinkled and leathery. The sun can also cause skin sagging and age spots, as well as growths that may lead to skin cancer. The extent of damage is directly related to the amount of sun exposure throughout life. Since more than half of a person's sun exposure occurs before the age of 20, it's very important to protect children from the sun. Watkins PABA-free Aloe Vera Sun Block SPF-30 is fragrance-free and safe for children. Aloe Lip Balm SPF-23 protects sensitive lips, and Aloe & Green Tea Hand and Body Lotion provides cooling, soothing relief after the sun. If you still find that you're a little red in the face, as well as the rest of your body, Watkins medicated Aloe Vera Burn Cream can help to relieve pain and itching from sunburn, windburn, insect bites, minor burns and skin irritations.

Hot News!

If you want to cool off and burn some extra calories this summer, here's a hot tip: A meal that includes hot peppers can boost your metabolism for several hours, helping to burn extra calories. Ironically, hot peppers can also help you stay cool by stimulating the cooling center of the brain. They can also help to lower blood cholesterol and reduce blood clots, cutting the risk of heart attack and stroke. As if that weren't enough, they might even make you feel better by stimulating the release of endorphins, substances in the brain that act as natural painkillers and mood enhancers. Watkins offers a variety of hot sauces, salsas and hot spices.

Watkins Steak Sauce

Watkins put its expertise to work in formulating a
steak sauce that blows away the competition! The
perfect accompaniment to steak, but that’s not all!
Try this superb condiment on hamburgers, french
fries, poultry, and anywhere a spicy tang is desired!
Versatile—adds tangy flavor and depth to roasts,
soups, stews, gravies, marinades, barbecue sauces,
tomato sauces, tomato juice cocktail…use your
imagination!

• Better taste: Combines the best attributes of A-1®
and Heinz 57® for a taste that will be preferred
by users of both.
• Versatile: In addition to steak, this sauce is
excellent with chops, hamburgers, fries, roast
and poultry; also a great addition to soups, stews
and gravies.
• Selected by GQ Magazine as one of
America’s best!
GQ writes: “The purpose of steak sauce is to help
you eat more steak, not to match its smoky-charred
goodness or mask it with peppery counterpoint.
Cleanse the palate, tease the mouth a little, and
make way for more.

“Watkins Steak Sauce: A tart little sauce, slightly
barbecueish and sweet but effective in cutting the
saltiness and whetting the appetite. Claims to be
somewhere between A.1. and Heinz 57, but thankfully
is better.”

Petro Carbo to the RESCUE!

Ever since I was a child I have had bad reactions to bug bites. The other day I had a black fly bite on my inner right wrist. It was just at the place on my wrist that every time I moved my wrist it would irritate the bug bite. Since I am right handed it, it was getting so irritated and sore. My whole wrist started to swell and it was painful to move it. I was out for most of the day and didn't have access to the Petro Carbo Salve. So as soon as I got home and I applied it with in 10 or so minutes the redness, the itching and some of the swelling disappeared. It felt so much better. Lesson learned never live home with out the Petro Carbo!

One of my Favorite Recipes!

Layered Salsa & Sour Cream Dip

It’s so DELICIOUS you won’t believe it’s so EASY to make!
Simply follow the directions on the Watkins Salsa & Sour
Cream Dip Mix making 1 1/2 cups. Spread evenly in shallow
bowl/plate. Top with grated cheese, chopped tomatoes,
ending with chopped green onions. Serve with nacho
chips & watch it quickly disappear!

I just made this again today! Oh my it is so good. This time I didn't have sour cream but I had cream cheese on hand and it was still very very good. If you make this with the cream cheese I recommend letting it set out a room temp for a little bit to let the cream cheese soften so it is easier to dip/scoop up. :D The fresh tomatoes, green onions and the Watkins Salsa & Sour Cream dip mix just are bursting with fantastic flavour! Mmm good...on the note I am going for a lil bit of it right now! ;)
